The College of Arts at the University of Samarra was established in 2019 to be one of the leading colleges offering higher education in the field of humanities. The college strives to provide distinguished academic programs in various disciplines such as Arabic language, History, Russian language, and Media, with a strong focus on developing students’ research and analytical skills. The college provides a stimulating learning environment, where students have access to modern libraries and advanced laboratories, in addition to continuous academic support from a distinguished teaching staff. Department of Arabic Language
The Department of Arabic Language is one of the core departments within the College of Arts at the University of Samarra. It was established along with the founding of the College during the 2018–2019 academic year, in recognition of the vast scope and depth of Arabic language studies that deserve comprehensive research and teaching. The department was founded to meet the increasing demand from students and researchers for this vital field of knowledge, which has seen significant development over time. It brings together a distinguished group of senior professors specializing in various branches of Arabic language and literature, with the goal of preparing graduates equipped with the expertise to preserve and advance Arabic linguistic and literary heritage in both academic and cultural contexts.

Department of Russian Language
The Department of Russian Language at the University of Samarra was founded in 2018 as one of the cornerstone departments of the promising College of Arts. It is the second department of its kind in Iraq, comparable to the Department of Russian Language at the College of Languages, University of Baghdad, which was founded nearly sixty years ago. The department has produced two graduating classes who have entered the labor market; notably, one of its top graduates earned a fully funded scholarship from the Russian government to pursue a master’s degree for the 2024–2025 academic year at one of Russia’s most prestigious universities. The department is supported by an academic staff composed of faculty members who hold advanced degrees and academic titles, all earned from leading Russian universities in the native country of the language.

Department of History
Although the remarkable advances in technology and the information revolution initially focused on the sciences, they have also greatly influenced the development of the field of history and its teaching methods. This shift has helped move beyond the old notion of history as a mere narration of past events and stories, integrating it instead into today’s vast information age. Despite extensive efforts by curriculum development centers to modernize history programs, adopt innovative models and teaching strategies, and utilize diverse tools and information technologies while improving teacher preparation, these efforts remain incomplete without a clear focus on the student. Providing a supportive educational environment enables students to acquire and develop the necessary skills. Even if students already possess such skills, they need to be nurtured and refined to be fully effective in learning and teaching history.

The study of archaeology holds great significance for the College and the University from scientific, cultural, and social perspectives, as it prepares specialists dedicated to preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage and advancing archaeological discoveries. The Department of Archaeology stands as one of the key scientific and academic pillars at the University of Samarra, working to develop students’ skills through modern methods of excavation, analysis, and scientific study of archaeological finds. It strengthens students’ theoretical background through courses that explore the heritage of ancient civilizations, especially those that flourished in Mesopotamia. Through its qualified staff, the department also promotes collaboration with local institutions and community organizations to enhance archaeological and cultural awareness among Samarra’s residents. The city is home to numerous important sites, some dating back to prehistoric times such as Tell Al-Suwan, as well as Abbasid-era sites that still surround the University campus to this day.

Department of Media
The Department of Media at the College of Arts, University of Samarra, was established under Ministerial Order No. T M 3/T 5275, issued on August 15, 2023, following a proposal by the College’s Deanery to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to create this department with two branches: Radio and Television, and Public Relations. Academic studies in the department commenced in the 2023–2024 academic year. Since its founding, the department has set a clear strategic goal of providing high-quality, distinguished educational content in media studies, with a strong focus on the foundations of scientific research and its essential sources. This allows students to gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute positively and effectively through media institutions, research centers, and consultancy fields. Additionally, the department emphasizes undergraduate teaching, practical training in specialized writing and editing, and the effective use of modern media equipment and tools.
