A Chemistry Lecturer Publishes a Scientific Paper in BMC Chemistry Journal

Dr. Osama Ahmed Yassin, a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra, has published an open-access scientific research paper in BMC Chemistry, a journal issued by the British publisher Springer Nature and classified within the second quartile (Q2).

Dr. Yassin presented his research entitled:
“Synthesis, characterization, DFT calculation, and biological activity of a new Schiff base ligand and its ZnO and Co₃O₄ nano-metal oxide complexes.”

The study aimed to synthesize and characterize a new Schiff base compound and to investigate its interaction with zinc and cobalt complexes using a range of advanced analytical techniques, including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), UV–Visible spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The research also incorporated Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to evaluate the chemical properties of the synthesized complexes.

The results demonstrated that the resulting nano-metal oxide complexes of ZnO and Co₃O₄ exhibited antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, highlighting their potential importance in biological and medical applications.
