The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Women in Technology and Innovation.” The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Faida Yassin Taha, Dr. Rana Raad Zanzal, and Assistant Lecturer Kameela Yassin Khalaf, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.

The presenters focused on the pivotal role women play in the fields of technology and innovation, affirming that numerous studies have demonstrated women’s outstanding abilities in critical and creative thinking. In addition, women’s qualities of empathy and flexibility contribute to offering innovative solutions to the complex problems facing the contemporary world.

The lecturers explained that empathy is not merely a personal trait, but rather a driving force that directs innovation toward serving humanity and improving quality of life, thereby strengthening the connection between technological advancement and human values.

On the other hand, the seminar highlighted the most prominent challenges faced by women in male-dominated work environments, including wage gaps, limited opportunities for career advancement, neglect of complaints related to sexual harassment, inadequate maternity and childcare leave benefits, as well as indirect discrimination in professional recognition.

In the same context, the seminar reviewed a set of supportive mechanisms for empowering women in the workplace. أبرزها achieving pay equality, fairness in promotions, training women for leadership positions, providing flexible work environments, avoiding professional penalties due to maternity leave, promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion initiatives, and ensuring that women are able to speak freely and effectively in meetings and decision-making processes.
