Department of Chemistry on a Scientific Visit to the State Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances – Samarra
The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra visited the State Company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances in Samarra in a practical scientific visit to the tablet manufacturing and packaging department, accompanied by a group of faculty members, with the participation of Chemistry Department students.
The visit aimed to introduce students to the various chemical processes used in the preparation of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and the manufacture of tablets, such as mixing, granulation, compression, coating, and drying, in addition to understanding the role of analytical chemistry in monitoring the quality of raw materials and final products.
The visit also contributed to familiarizing students with the laboratory and medical equipment used in pharmaceutical plants, such as spectroscopic analysis instruments, precision weighing devices, dissolution and hardness testing instruments, and chromatography systems, thereby enhancing students’ skills in handling modern technologies related to their specialization.
The importance of the visit also lies in raising students’ awareness of drug packaging mechanisms and storage and transportation conditions, in addition to the role of chemistry in ensuring drug stability, safety, and efficacy, particularly with regard to compliance with international quality standards (GMP) and occupational safety requirements.
In conclusion, field visits to pharmaceutical factories contribute to the scientific and practical preparation of Chemistry Department students and to the development of their awareness of the role of chemistry in the pharmaceutical industry, which enhances their future opportunities in the labor market and scientific research.
