A Workshop in the Department of Chemistry Discusses the Requirements of School Practicum
The Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the University Guidance Unit at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra, organized a workshop entitled “Requirements of School Practicum.” The workshop was presented by Prof. Dr. Faida Yassin Taha and Asst. Prof. Dr. Diana Abdul Karim Shakir, and was attended by academic supervisors and fourth-year students.
The activity aimed to prepare and qualify student teachers to practice the teaching profession properly by linking the theoretical aspects studied at the college with practical application in schools, thereby helping them acquire educational experience and teaching skills.
Prof. Dr. Taha focused on the importance of school practicum in familiarizing students with the school environment, observing teaching methods, participating in classroom activities, and engaging in actual teaching under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and an educational supervisor. This contributes to developing communication skills, classroom management, student interaction, and lesson planning.
Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Dr. Shakir explained that school practicum is a fundamental step in teacher preparation, as it helps build self-confidence, understand professional duties, and adhere to the ethics of the teaching profession, thus qualifying the student teacher to perform their educational and instructional role with high efficiency.
