Chemistry Department Organizes a Scientific Course on the Increase in Oxidative Stress Cases
The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific course entitled “Some Factors Contributing to the Increase in Oxidative Stress Cases”, delivered by Dr. Iman Abbas Mohammed.
The lecture aimed to introduce the concept of oxidative stress, describing it as a chemical imbalance that occurs when the activity of unstable free radicals outweighs the body’s antioxidant defenses, leading to damage to cells and tissues.
The lecture also addressed the relationship between oxidative stress and the development of several chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders, as a result of damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA.
The course concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the adoption of a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals that enhance the function of antioxidants and protect cells, as well as the necessity of adopting healthy lifestyles to promote public health and reduce the effects of oxidative stress.
