Department of Chemistry Organizes a Seminar on Social Norms and Their Role in Protecting Individuals from Suicide

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a seminar entitled: “Social Norms and Their Role in Protecting Individuals from Suicide.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Kameela Yaseen Khalaf and Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hussein.

The presenters aimed to highlight the role of social norms as a system of values, customs, and traditions that regulate individuals’ behavior within society and contribute to strengthening a sense of belonging and social support.

The lecturers focused on how family bonds, social solidarity, and moral standards can enhance an individual’s psychological resilience and reduce feelings of isolation and despair that may lead to suicide.

The seminar concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably raising awareness of the importance of a supportive social environment, as well as encouraging community initiatives that help contain and support individuals psychologically and socially.
