Department of Life Sciences Organizes a Training Course on Blood Collection Methods
The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a training course entitled “Blood Collection Methods,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Bassam Abdulhakim Wahib, with active participation from the department’s students. The course was held scientific activities aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The course presenter sought to explain the fundamental aspects of safe and proper blood collection, starting with an introduction to the types of blood samples and appropriate collection sites, passing through the mechanism of selecting sterile equipment, and concluding with the correct procedures for handling and preserving samples to avoid laboratory errors.
The course included a practical explanation of sterilization requirements, occupational safety procedures, and ways to prevent potential complications during blood collection. It also featured hands-on applications that enabled students to gain field experience and enhance their readiness to work in medical laboratories in the future.
At the conclusion of the course, Wahib emphasized the importance of adhering to ethical and professional standards when dealing with patients and laboratory samples, and training students on proper blood collection techniques, which contributes to improving the competence and qualification of Life Sciences students.
