Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences Publishes Scientific Research in an International Journal on the Physiological Pathways, Pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s Disease, and Therapeutic Stra

Assistant Lecturer Narjis Ali Zaidan, a faculty member in the Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in the Journal of Healthcare and Life-Science Research.

The study was titled:
“Physiological Pathways of Bidirectional Communication in Microbial Dysbiosis, Alzheimer’s Disease Pathogenesis, and Therapeutic Strategies.”

The research aimed to investigate the gut–brain axis, which is considered a highly complex bidirectional communication system linking the enteric nervous system and the central nervous system through neural, hormonal, and immune pathways.

The findings revealed that microbial dysbiosis plays a fundamental role in the development of neurological disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. This imbalance stimulates inflammatory molecules and disrupts the production of neuroprotective fatty acids, accelerating the accumulation of harmful proteins such as amyloid-beta and tau, as well as contributing to the breakdown of the blood–brain barrier.

The study also highlighted promising therapeutic strategies aimed at regulating the gut microbiome to reduce cognitive decline. These strategies include dietary interventions, the use of probiotics, and advanced techniques such as fecal microbiota transplantation, opening new horizons for early diagnosis and treatment.
