A symposium at the College of Agriculture highlights the role of renewable energy in supporting agricultural production.
The College of Agriculture at the University of Samarra organized a scientific symposium titled “Investing Renewable Energy in the Agricultural Field to Reduce Costs and Increase Production,” presented by Dr. Mona Ayed Youssef, Head of the Food Science Department at the college. This was part of the extension program aimed at disseminating seeds of strategic crops tolerant to salinity and drought using modern irrigation methods.
Dr. Mona discussed the importance of utilizing renewable energy sources in the agricultural sector, their role in reducing production costs and improving the efficiency of agricultural operations, in addition to their contribution to achieving environmental sustainability and supporting food security.
In the same context, the lecturer focused on the possibility of using clean energy technologies to operate modern irrigation systems and reduce resource consumption, thereby contributing to facing environmental and climatic challenges, especially those related to water scarcity and rising temperatures.
Meanwhile, the symposium presenter emphasized the importance of keeping pace with modern scientific and technological developments in the agricultural field, pointing out that adopting sustainable solutions represents an important step towards developing agricultural production and achieving optimal use of natural resources.
It is worth mentioning that the symposium came within the framework of enhancing scientific cooperation and exchanging expertise to serve the development of the agricultural sector in the governorate. It was attended by a number of farmers in the governorate, along with some specialists and those interested in agricultural affairs, with the participation of representatives from agricultural and extension agencies.
