The College of Agriculture at Samarra University organized a training course entitled “The Unified Retirement Law and the Social Security Law: Between Reality and Aspiration,” with the aim of highlighting the importance of legislation related to retirement and social security and its role in achieving social protection and guaranteeing the legal rights of employees and workers.

The lecturers explained that retirement and social security laws are among the most closely linked legislation to people’s daily lives, given their role in protecting income and ensuring financial stability during old age, disability, illness, or death, in addition to regulating the retirement rights of workers in various sectors.

The course also addressed the Unified Retirement Law No. (9) of 2014, which was enacted to regulate and unify retirement provisions for employees, along with outlining the responsibilities of the National Retirement Authority and the mechanisms for calculating retirement benefits and determining eligibility.

The course also addressed the Retirement and Social Security Law for Workers No. (18) of 2023, which aims to expand social protection to include workers in the private, mixed, cooperative, and informal sectors, in line with economic developments and the requirements of the modern labor market.
