Scientific laboratories of the Department of Civil Engineering
Scientific laboratories
Civil engineering department contains four laboratories for undergraduate student each one carry up to forty students and all are supplied with furniture suitable for the purpose of the lab. The laboratories contains the tools and equipment necessary to conduct tests and experiments for students in all stages as well as participating in quality control tests for materials used in construction projects. The tools and equipment includes heavy and sensitive instruments, ovens, site investigations tools and equipment for soil investigations and concrete site tests.
1-Highway, Soil and Surveying lab : Identify the physical properties of soil such as (moisture content, specific weight, plastic limit, liquid limit, sieve analysis, hydrometer, normal proctor, modified proctor, field density) as well as mechanical properties of soil such as (direct shear test, unconfined loading, California loading). Identifying the properties of asphalt material (bitumen) such as (penetration, ductility, heat loss, ductility, viscosity, flash degree, degree of ignition, Marshall stability). Survey laboratory experiments such as (level measurement, measurement of horizontal and vertical angles, plans drawing, layout of plans, longitudinal and transverse sections of roads, measuring areas for lands and facilities, finding volumes for earthworks) using devices (level, theodolite, total station and GPS) and its accessories. The laboratory is attended by students of the second, third and fourth stages of the Civil Engineering Department, in addition to students who have graduation projects related to soil, surveying and roads, as well as researchers from teachers and graduate students.
2-Concrete and construction materials lab:
Identify the properties of different construction materials (brick, plaster, block, tiles, iron, stone, cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate) such as dimension matching, water absorption ratio, compressive resistance, in addition to tests of fresh concrete such as (consistency and workability) and tests hardened concrete such as (compressive strength, flexural strength), the laboratory is attended by first and second stage students of the Civil Engineering Department, in addition to students of the fourth stage of the department who have a construction graduation project, as well as researchers from teachers and graduate students.
3-Computers Laboratory :
Student learn the basics of using computers and some of the important programs like (Microsoft office, Visual Basic, Autocad and Rivit ) The laboratory is attended by first, second and third stage students of the Civil Engineering Department.
4-Sanitary Engineering Lab :
Includes a set of devices and chemical agents and is specialized in conducting water, sewage and soil tests. Its tests vary among physical, chemical and biological, its students are distributed between the third and fourth stages.
