Department of biology

The Department of Life Sciences is one of the important scientific departments in the College of Education, which began in the academic year 2000-2001 and offers distinguished educational programs that comply with quality standards and meet the requirements of the labor market fields of life sciences.

Department goals:

  1. Preparing teaching cadres to supply educational and educational institutions with cadres capable of preparing influential generations in society.
  2. Providing scientifically qualified expertise and competencies to meet the needs of development plans and the labor market.
  3. Develop students’ skills in logical analysis and conclusion.
  4. Develop and encourage scientific research and employ it in community service in life sciences disciplines such as environment, plants, microbiology and zoology.

Scientific laboratories:

There are five laboratories for preliminary studies in the Department of biology Sciences, one laboratory can accommodate up to 25 students, with a laboratory for advanced research and a laboratory for postgraduate studies. The preliminary studies laboratories are distributed as follows:

  1. Parasitology Laboratory: Parasitology + Immunity
  2. Animal laboratory: tissues + embryos + insects + animal physiology + cell.
  3. Environment laboratory: environment and pollution + chemistry
  4. Microbiology Laboratory: Microbiology + Fungi + Comparative Anatomy.
  5. Plant laboratory: plant anatomy + plant classification + plant physiology.
  • Parasitology Laboratory: It provides all experiments related to the identification, diagnosis and life cycles of parasites, in addition to experiments related to immunity. The laboratory contains many laboratory devices that facilitate the performance of experiments. Under the supervision of a teaching staff within the specialization.
  • Animal Laboratory: This laboratory meets the needs of all the delicate disciplines that branch from the jurisdiction of zoology for many levels of study. It provides experiments with animal cells, tissues and embryos, in addition to animal physiology. In addition to the existence of an insect box for collecting insect models throughout the school year.
  •  Environment laboratory: It provides the needs of environment and pollution experiments for samples collected from the university and city environment, in addition to general and life chemistry experiments, preparation of dilutions, and identification of methods for preparing solutions with certain concentrations.

 Microbiology Laboratory: This laboratory provides experiments based on special techniques to deal with microorganisms, whether bacteria or fungi. Methods of dyeing and diagnosing them using special and various nutritional media, including differential media and optional media, in addition to the experiments on comparative anatomy for the third stage.

 Plant laboratory: This laboratory is distinguished by its specialization in all plant experiments for the first, second and fourth stages, as it includes a small herbarium inside the laboratory to preserve dried plant samples and rare samples. As well as plant anatomy and plant physiology experiments.

Research laboratories

The Department of Life Sciences has two research laboratories: a research laboratory and a specialized postgraduate laboratory for research professors and graduate students from masters and doctoral degrees to help them complete their research projects and raise the level of scientific research. These laboratories include a number of devices that facilitate the work of researchers, which are calibrated and maintained on a semi-annual basis.
