The University of Samarra- College of Agriculture restores the glamour of artifacts icons

 

The practical aspect of the lectures for the students of the preliminary studies at the College of Archeology continues, and since archaeology is an integral part of the identity of our country, Iraq, we believe that it is necessary to inform the public about the types of archaeological and heritage collections, so icons are considered one of the most valuable museum holdings.
To restore them, we need high expertise and careful observation. The restorer must have a high artistic taste to restore the icons to their former radiance while preserving their originality.
The lecture included
Cleaning of oil paintings::
1- Dust removal: it is removed using a soft cloth or a flexible cleaning brush with slight pressure. As for cleaning the color layer of dust in the case of pictures that do not carry the varnish layer, it is done using a mixture of (turpentine and alcohol), but if the dirt has penetrated in the color layer, what is done in this case is to use small tools wrapped in cotton dipped in ethyl alcohol, then squeezed well and then cleaned carefully after a preliminary experiment process on the edge of the image.
