Two professors at Samarra University take advantage of highways with photovoltaic roofs to combine saltwater desalination and energy generation in scientific research

Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ibrahim Khalil – Associate Dean of the College of Engineering for Scientific Affairs – and Dr. Raed Hassan Abdullah – Head of the Architecture Department – at the College of Engineering at Samarra University, presented scientific research entitled “Exploitation of Highways with Photovoltaic Roofs to Combine Salt Water Desalination and Electric Power Generation Cleanliness in Iraq,” in the activities of the first international exhibition of patents and scientific posters of the Arab Association for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Iraq branch, one of the associations of the Arab Research Councils Union, which is being held in Baghdad.

The research summary stated that the availability of freshwater resources and energy are two essential material elements for the continuity of human life. They represent critical sources in achieving sustainable human development.
And if Iraq enjoyed abundant fresh water, today it suffers from an apparent shortage of water resources, coupled with a significant lack of energy provision.
