Chemistry Faculty Member Publishes a Scientific Research Paper in Reviews and Advances in Chemistry

Assistant Professor Dr. Moamen Farid Hamad, a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in the journal Reviews and Advances in Chemistry, published by Pleiades Publishing. The journal is indexed in Scopus and ranked in the fourth quartile (Q4).

The research is entitled “Synthesis and Evaluation of Novel Aromatic Azo Dyes as Efficient Corrosion Inhibitors for Carbon Steel.”

The study aimed to design and synthesize five novel aromatic azo dyes (N1–N5) through diazonium salt coupling reactions with a number of different compounds, namely 3,5-dihydroxytoluene, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, 2-hydroxy-5-sulfobenzoic acid, 2-methylnaphthol, and 2,6-xylenol, with corresponding yields of 0.01, 24, 1.24, 1.01, 1.58, and 1.52, respectively.

The study results demonstrated that all of the synthesized azo dyes exhibited promising corrosion inhibition performance. However, compound N3, which contains hydroxyl, carboxyl, and sulfonic acid functional groups, showed superior corrosion inhibition efficiency compared with the other compounds. The study also included the characterization of the synthesized dyes by determining their physical properties, including color, melting point, and solubility.
