A Faculty Member in the Department of History Publishes a Research Paper in the Samarra Journal for Humanitarian Studies
Assistant Lecturer Ubaidah Abdul Majeed Hussein Ahmed, a faculty member in the Department of History, College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a research paper entitled \”Women Historians in Islamic Civilization\” in the Samarra Journal for Humanitarian Studies, Vol. 22, No. 88, Part III, issued in June 2026.
The study examined the scholarly and intellectual contributions of women historians in Islamic civilization, highlighting their role in documenting history, narrating historical events and biographies, and preserving the Islamic historical heritage through narration, biographical dictionaries, historical classes (Tabaqat), and the transmission of manuscripts. It also analyzed the methodologies they employed in historical documentation.
The researcher adopted historical, analytical, and critical approaches to trace the development of women\’s contributions to historiography, beginning with the era of the Prophet Muhammad and the tradition of oral transmission, through the periods of historical compilation and scientific flourishing. The study also examined selected examples from the Islamic East and Al-Andalus to demonstrate the intellectual impact of women historians on the development of Islamic historiography.
The research concluded that women historians played a vital role in preserving the historical memory of Islamic civilization. Their contributions extended beyond the transmission of historical accounts to include documentation, verification, and critical historical analysis, underscoring their significant place in the development of Islamic civilization and opening new avenues for future research that further recognizes their role in the historical heritage.
