A Scientific Seminar at the College of Agriculture on Grape Storage Methods and Nutritional Quality
The College of Agriculture at Samarra University, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific seminar entitled: “Different Storage Methods and Their Impact on the Chemical Composition of Grapes.” This seminar was part of the college’s scientific activities aimed at supporting applied knowledge in the agricultural and food fields.
The seminar was presented by:
Assistant Lecturer Abeer Majeed Shaker,
Assistant Lecturer Baraa Abdul Salam Abdul Hameed, and
Assistant Lecturer Noor Al-Huda Hameed Hassan.
The seminar addressed the importance of understanding the different storage methods used to preserve grapes and their role in reducing spoilage and maintaining the quality and nutritional value of the fruit. It also reviewed the changes that occur in the chemical composition of grapes during storage, most notably a decrease in moisture content, an increase in sugar content, an increase in acidity, and changes in color and taste. This underscores the necessity of selecting and continuously developing appropriate storage methods to minimize these undesirable changes.
The lecturers emphasized the importance of researching modern storage technologies that do not negatively affect the chemical composition of fruits or their antioxidant content, which is crucial for human health, in addition to their role in enhancing nutritional value and the quality of the final product.
The symposium also highlighted the role of governments and educational institutions in organizing training courses and workshops for those working in agriculture and the food industry, with the aim of improving their skills and enabling them to produce high-quality products that retain their nutritional value.
This symposium comes as part of the College of Agriculture’s commitment to keeping pace with scientific developments and linking academic knowledge with practical application in a way that serves the agricultural sector and food security. Media and Government Communication Department
