The College of Agriculture at Samarra University organized a training course entitled, “Preparing an Emergency Response Plan for Suicide Incidents at the Site of the Incident and Effectively Managing
.” This initiative is part of the college’s efforts to enhance psychological and social awareness and build the capacity of staff and students in dealing with sensitive humanitarian crises.
The course focused on how to support those close to individuals who have attempted suicide, providing them with various forms of psychological support, guidance, advice, and appropriate coping mechanisms. Emphasis was placed on the importance of maintaining confidentiality between beneficiaries and mental health professionals. The course also addressed the role of relevant authorities in investigating the circumstances of the incident and the procedures for evidence collection teams to ensure the integrity of legal proceedings.
The course concluded with a discussion of the role of relevant authorities in investigating suicide incidents and the importance of preserving evidence to maintain the integrity of legal procedures. The course also addressed the concept of social stigma that may surround the family of the deceased or those close to them, explaining its negative psychological and social effects, and ways to mitigate and reject this type of thinking, especially in societies that still view such incidents with unfair blame or condemnation.
The course was presented by Assistant Lecturer Tayba Mohammed Ali and Assistant Lecturer Baraa Abdel Salam Abdel Hamid, who emphasized the importance of a rapid and organized response in such cases, and the necessity of integrating psychological support, legal procedures, and the community’s role in containing the crisis and minimizing its impact.
