A Physics Department Lecturer Publishes a Scientific Research Paper in an American Journal
Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Sharif Mohammed, a lecturer in the Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in the journal Nanoscience and Technology, which is issued by the independent academic publisher Begell House Inc. The journal is indexed in Scopus and ranked in the fourth quartile (Q2).
The research was entitled:
“Growth and Characterization of Thin Film of Copper Oxide”
The study aimed to prepare thin films of copper oxide (CuO) on glass substrates for use as gas sensors through the DC reactive spray deposition technique. It also focused on analyzing the morphology and surface roughness of the films using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
The results revealed that the copper oxide films possess a polycrystalline structure with a preferred orientation along the (110) plane, according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. FE-SEM images also showed uniformly distributed copper oxide nanoparticles on the film surfaces, enhancing their efficiency in sensing and electronic applications. In addition, the refractive index was found to decrease with increasing wavelength, while higher values were recorded at wavelengths below 300 nm due to the small size of the nanoparticles.
