Chemistry Department Organizes a Seminar on Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a seminar entitled “Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions”, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Khalid Hussein and Dr. Wafaa Naseef Jassim.

The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of environmental pollution and harmful emissions, identify their sources and impacts on human health, the environment, and climate, and highlight the possibility of applying modern and sustainable approaches to mitigate their effects while promoting environmental awareness within the community.

During the seminar, Dr. Hussein discussed the concept of pollution and emissions, as well as the major pollutants affecting the environment. He also addressed the different types of pollution, the causes of increasing emissions, and their environmental and health impacts. Furthermore, he reviewed effective strategies for reducing pollution and emissions through the adoption of clean energy, recycling practices, afforestation, and strengthening the role of individuals and communities in environmental protection.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Jassim presented a set of recommendations, most notably increasing the use of renewable energy sources, supporting environmental legislation and regulations, promoting environmental awareness in schools and universities, and encouraging recycling and tree-planting initiatives to help preserve the environment and reduce climate change impacts. She also emphasized the importance of adopting environmentally responsible practices across various sectors and utilizing modern technologies to minimize the negative effects of pollution and achieve sustainable development.
