Department of Chemistry Organizes an Extracurricular Activity on Healthy and Unhealthy Fats
The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized an extracurricular activity entitled “Healthy and Unhealthy Fats”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Hamza Riyadh Abdulhamid and Assistant Lecturer Tamara Mustafa Ahmed.
The activity aimed to raise nutritional awareness about unhealthy fats, such as saturated and trans fats found in butter, fatty meats, as well as fast and fried foods, which play a role in increasing harmful cholesterol levels and raising the risks of obesity and cardiovascular diseases.
The organizers highlighted the importance of healthy fats, represented by monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in olive oil, nuts, avocados, and fatty fish, which contribute to lowering harmful cholesterol and enhancing heart and brain health.
The specialists also noted that focusing on healthy fats and replacing unhealthy ones is a fundamental pillar in following a balanced and healthy diet.
