Engineering Professor Publishes Scopus-Indexed Research on Lithium-Ion Battery Stability

Lecturer Dr. Shaymaa Hisham Abdulmalek, a faculty member in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Samarra, in collaboration with a research team from Tikrit University, has published a rigorous scientific study in an international journal ranked in the second quartile (Q2) of the Scopus global databases. The study is titled: “Analysis of the impact of geometric arrangement and encapsulation materials on heat generation in lithium-ion battery packs.”
The study focused on addressing thermal challenges that affect battery safety and lifespan. The researchers developed an advanced analytical model to compare the efficiency of different geometric arrangements and thicknesses of Delrin insulating material.
Key Findings
* The results revealed the superiority of the hexagonal arrangement with a thickness of 2 mm in achieving the highest thermal stability.
* This setup showed high performance efficiency in extreme climatic conditions, specifically at very low temperatures reaching -20.6°C.
This research serves as an important scientific reference for developing safer and more efficient energy storage systems. It enhances the reliability of batteries used in electric vehicles and renewable energy applications, opening new horizons for designing industrial battery packs with longer operational lives and higher resistance to thermal hazards.
Institutional Recognition
In this regard, the Deanship of the College of Engineering—represented by its Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Amjed Saleh Mahmood —congratulates Dr. Shaymaa Hisham Abdulmalek on this qualitative scientific achievement. This accomplishment reflects the depth of the research vision of the college’s faculty and their ability to provide innovative technical solutions in sustainable energy fields, contributing to the university’s standing in prestigious global rankings.
