The University of Samarra organizes a scientific symposium on misleading news and its impact on youth in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior

 

The Department of Media and Public Relations, headed by Samarra University, cooperated with the Student Affairs and Registration Department and the Rumors Department of the Ministry of Interior, organized an educational seminar to raise community awareness among young people in the field of combating rumors.

In the presence of the President of the University of Samarra, Prof. Dr. Sabah Allawi Al-Samarrai, his vice for scientific affairs, Prof. Kamal Hussein Ahmed, the Associate Dean of the College of Education for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Yasser Muhammad Salih, the Director of the Media and Public Relations Department, Sarwa Madin Muhammad, and a large number of undergraduate students at the university.

The Director of the Rumors Department at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Nibras Ali, explained that the symposium aims to clarify how to deal with misleading news, fight rumors and resort to official sources to listen to the information.
He added, “The Rumors Department in the Ministry is constantly working to urge citizens and educate people in the field of fighting rumors in all Iraqi universities, both public and private. There is a strategic plan to target all layers of society, especially for young people, to hold such seminars.”

For his part, the President of Samarra University, Prof. Dr. Sabah Allawi Al-Samarrai, explained that “this symposium is the second of its kind for the Ministry of Interior at the university.” He added that “rumors are a severe issue that society suffers from, by exploiting the weak of souls for misleading news that sometimes leads to crimes. And the University of Samarra is concerned and interested in this issue. It seeks to educate students and make them aware of the dangers of this phenomenon and receive news only from official sources.

The university president pointed out that “there is another symposium on the use of mobile phones and the mechanism of dealing with social media, which confirms the university’s keenness to protect students and society from harmful phenomena.”
