Department of Chemistry Organizes a Scientific Course on Occupational Safety in Chemical Laboratories

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific course entitled “Occupational Safety in Chemical Laboratories,” presented by Dr. Baydaa Adnan Jasim and Assistant Lecturer Tayba AbdulSalam.

The course aimed to enhance awareness of the fundamentals of occupational safety within laboratories and to reduce risks resulting from handling chemical materials and equipment.

It also addressed identifying sources of hazards in chemical laboratories and methods of prevention, in addition to explaining the principles of safe storage of chemicals and proper procedures for handling hazardous materials and chemical waste.

The course concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the importance of wearing personal protective equipment to protect students and staff, as well as emergency procedures and first aid measures in cases of chemical burns, gas leaks, and laboratory accidents. It also emphasized the necessity of adhering to safety guidelines and promoting a culture of prevention and responsibility within laboratories, ensuring a safe educational environment that contributes to the success of the educational and research process.
