With Participation from Arab and International Universities.. A Faculty Member at the College of Engineering Publishes Research on Rural Road Development in Scopus

Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Hadi Mahmoud, a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in Acta Logistica – International Scientific Journal about Logistics. This is a peer-reviewed international scientific journal ranked within the Second Quartile (Q2) according to the Scopus and Clarivate databases.

The research, titled “A comprehensive approach to evaluating and predicting level of service for two-lane rural highways,” was completed in collaboration with researchers from the University of Science, Malaysia (USM), Al-Isra University in Jordan, and the University of Baghdad. This international research cooperation reflects the integration of academic expertise between the participating universities.

The study involved evaluating and predicting the traffic Level of Service (LOS) for two-lane rural highways through an applied study on the Salah al-Din – Kirkuk road. It utilized modern analytical models and specialized software, such as Highway Capacity Software (HCS-2024), based on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) methodology.

In the context of the research, the study focused on the impact of road geometric characteristics, traffic volume, the percentage of heavy vehicles, and free-flow speed in determining both current and future levels of service.

The findings contribute to providing a practical scientific framework that supports decisions for rural road development and improves traffic performance efficiency and safety, thereby enhancing sustainable infrastructure planning in Iraq and developing countries.

In this regard, the Deanship of the College of Engineering congratulates the faculty member on this scientific achievement, which serves as a significant addition to the university’s research record and confirms its active presence in globally ranked scientific journals and international research collaborations.
