Human Rights in the Face of Environmental Risks: Addressing the Stray Dog Challenge

As part of its scientific and awareness-raising activities, the College of Agriculture at Samarra University organized an awareness seminar entitled “Human Rights in the Face of Environmental Risks: Addressing the Stray Dog Challenge.” This seminar reflected the college’s commitment to promoting environmental and health awareness and highlighting a phenomenon that directly impacts society.

The seminar addressed the various dimensions of the stray dog ​​phenomenon and its repercussions on human rights, public health, and the environment. It also discussed the negative impact on green spaces and agricultural crops, as well as the social, psychological, and economic risks it poses, particularly in residential and agricultural communities.

The seminar further discussed prevention and treatment methods, reviewing key practical solutions such as vaccination and sterilization programs, and establishing specialized shelters for stray dogs. It also highlighted the laws and regulations governing the issue and outlined the role of governmental institutions and civil society in mitigating its spread.

The symposium featured valuable scientific presentations by Assistant Teacher Ola Emad Mohammed Jawad, Assistant Teacher Batoul Sabah Obeid, and Assistant Teacher Maab Naaman Laheeb. During their presentations, they emphasized the importance of community awareness, promoting a culture of shared responsibility, and supporting initiatives that contribute to protecting both people and the environment.

In conclusion, the symposium stressed the need for collaboration among academic institutions and relevant stakeholders, working as a unified team to mitigate environmental risks, solidify human rights principles, and build a safe and healthy environment that contributes to achieving sustainable development.
