Department of Life Sciences Discusses Disease Vectors and Vector-Borne Diseases in a Scientific Seminar

The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra held a scientific seminar entitled “Disease Vectors and Vector-Borne Diseases”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Ali Saeed, Assistant Lecturer Ayat Muwaffaq Majid, and Assistant Lecturer Maysam Ibrahim Mahdi, in implementation of the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Department of Media and Government Communication at the University Presidency.

The presenters aimed to introduce the most important disease vectors and explain how diseases are transmitted from insects to humans, in addition to clarifying the types of vectors such as insects and rodents that transmit parasitic, bacterial, and viral infections.
The lecturers also addressed diseases transmitted through disease vectors, such as leishmaniasis, malaria, plague, and other diseases found in African and humid regions.

The seminar concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably avoiding polluted water swamps, wearing long clothing to cover the arms and legs, disinfecting and thoroughly washing the bite site, as well as combating areas infested with disease vectors.
