The Department of English Organizes a Scientific Course on the Differences Between Phonetics and Phonology
The Department of English at the College of Education for Humanities – University of Samarra organized a scientific course entitled:
“An Analytical Study of the Main Differences Between Phonetics and Phonology,”
presented by Assistant Professor Abdul Latif Khalil Ibrahim.
The course began with an explanation of the concepts of Phonetics and Phonology and their importance in studying speech sounds and correct pronunciation in the English language. It also clarified the theoretical and practical differences between the two fields in a manner appropriate to the academic level of the participants.
The course covered several topics, including an introduction to phonetics and its types, an explanation of phonology, and a distinction between speech sounds, phonemes, and allophones, in addition to practical applications and simplified examples that supported the applied aspect of the subject.
At the conclusion of the course, the lecturer recommended that students pay close attention to phonetic aspects in their academic studies and maintain continuous practical training in correct pronunciation, given its direct impact on developing their language skills and building a solid scientific foundation in the study of the English language.
