A Research Team at the College of Education for Pure Sciences Publishes a Joint Scientific Study on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in the City of Samarra
A research team from the Departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, has published a scientific study in the Samarra Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences entitled:
“A Clinical Study of Hormonal Profile Alterations in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in the City of Samarra.”
The study was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Reem Ibrahim Mahdi, Assistant Lecturer Zainab Ali Hussein, Assistant Lecturer Ayat Muwaffaq Majeed, and Assistant Lecturer Maysam Ibrahim Mahdi.
The study, carried out in the city of Samarra, aimed to evaluate the effect of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) on the levels of selected sex and related hormones in a sample of women, with a focus on the hormonal alterations associated with this syndrome.
The research examined the impact of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen, progesterone, as well as anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and prolactin. Hormonal levels were measured using serum blood tests, and the results were statistically analyzed using the independent t-test through the SPSS software program.
The findings revealed a statistically significant increase in the levels of luteinizing hormone, estrogen, anti-Müllerian hormone, and prolactin in women diagnosed with PCOS. In contrast, a significant decrease was observed in the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and progesterone when compared to the control group, with a strong level of statistical significance (p ≤ 0.005).
The study concluded that Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is associated with clear hormonal disturbances and has a direct impact on female fertility and reproductive health. The researchers emphasized the importance of early hormonal screening in the diagnosis of PCOS and the continuous monitoring of affected cases.
