College of Engineering Highlights the Legal Rights of Working Women in an Educational Seminar

The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra embodied its commitment to the executive plan of the National Strategy for Iraqi Women (2025-2026) through an educational seminar organized by the college’s Women’s Affairs Unit titled “Labor Law and Social Security (Women’s Rights),” presented by the legal expert Omar Saad Hamid, head of the Legal Division.
The presenter reviewed the provisions of Iraqi Labor Law No. (37) of 2015 and the Retirement and Social Security Law, focusing on the legal guarantees that ensure professional and social protection for women, while emphasizing the principles of equal opportunity and combating discrimination and harassment in the work environment.
The seminar—which was organized under the supervision of Ms. Reem Ali Ahmed, head of the Women’s Affairs Division at the university—witnessed extensive discussions on maternity rights, pregnancy and childbirth leaves, and legal protection mechanisms against workplace arbitrariness, stressing the importance of female workers’ awareness of their insurance rights to ensure career stability.
The event concluded with fundamental recommendations calling for the sustainability of legal awareness through instructional brochures and periodic workshops, and enhancing coordination between regulatory institutions and civil society to create a safe work environment that supports women’s empowerment and drives the wheel of sustainable development and social justice.
