College of Administration and Economics Organizes a Scientific Seminar Entitled “Fiscal Sustainability and Its Impact on the Trade Balance in Iraq”
The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Samarra, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled “Fiscal Sustainability and Its Impact on the Trade Balance in Iraq” on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members, students, and individuals with an interest in economic affairs.
The seminar examined the concept of fiscal sustainability and its pivotal role in achieving economic stability, particularly in light of the Iraqi economy’s heavy dependence on oil revenues and the consequent fluctuations in the trade balance resulting from changes in global oil prices.
The discussions underscored the importance of diversifying sources of national income, strengthening non-oil productive sectors, and rationalizing public expenditure, as essential measures to mitigate trade imbalances and promote sustainable development.
The seminar sessions were delivered by Lecturer Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Rashid, Assistant Lecturer Ubaida Amer Khudair, and Assistant Lecturer Hatem Karim Ahmed. The speakers presented analytical insights and scholarly frameworks that contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between fiscal sustainability and the trade balance, while offering practical recommendations aimed at reinforcing the resilience and robustness of the national economy.
This seminar forms part of a broader series of scientific activities regularly organized by the College of Administration and Economics to enhance economic awareness, integrate theoretical perspectives with practical realities, and support academic research in a manner that advances Iraq’s development agenda.
