The Women’s Affairs Unit at University of Samarra, under the patronage of the Deanship of the College of Administration and Economics, organized a scientific course entitled “The Role of Iraqi Women in Political Participation and Decision-Making” on Wednesday and Thursday, 11–12 February 2026.
The lectures were delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mawj Nusrat Abdullah, Assistant Lecturer Sarah Latif Turki, and Ms. Noura Najah Mahdi. The sessions addressed a range of scholarly themes, focusing on the current state of Iraqi women’s political participation and the importance of empowering women and strengthening their representation within legislative and executive institutions, thereby reinforcing the principles of partnership and active citizenship.
The course further examined the most significant social, cultural, and legal challenges confronting women throughout their political trajectories, emphasizing the necessity of developing leadership capacities and supporting policies and legislation that promote equality and equal opportunities. Such measures are essential to ensuring women’s effective contribution to decision-making processes, state-building efforts, and the attainment of sustainable development goals.
This course forms part of a broader series of academic activities organized by the College with the aim of enhancing societal awareness and empowering women’s capacities, in alignment with the University’s strategic orientation toward supporting women’s issues and consolidating their pivotal role in achieving comprehensive development.
