Department of Life Sciences Organizes a Training Course on Preparing Transverse Sections in Plant Organs

The Department of Life Sciences at the CollegeEducation for Pure Sciences   of  University of Samarra organized a training course entitled “Preparing Transverse Sections in Plant Organs.” The course was delivered by Dr. Warqaa Tawfiq, Assistant Lecturer Hala Amer Abduljabbar, and Assistant Lecturer Hussein Saher Hassan.

The course aimed to conduct a histological study of the vegetative plant organs by preparing transverse sections of the root, stem, and leaf. Manual sectioning methods were used, and the sections were examined under a light microscope.

The course also included obtaining epidermal tissue from leaves through epidermal peeling in monocotyledonous plants, in addition to dicotyledonous plants. Differences in cell shape were observed between plants of the two groups, particularly in the number of stomata in the upper and lower epidermis.

This course comes as part of training students in one of the approved methods used to study tissues in the different parts of plants.
