College of Engineering Organizes a Workshop on Preventing Violent Extremism

The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra—represented by its head, Jurist Omar Saad Hamid—organized a specialized workshop titled “International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism,” presented by Dr. Hisham Hamid Ali, a faculty member at the College of Islamic Sciences.
The presenter reviewed the core concept of extremism as a departure from the boundaries of moderation and balance advocated by Islamic Sharia in the Quranic verse: “And thus we have made you a just community,” emphasizing that the Holy Quran was a pioneer in rejecting immoderation long before international charters.
In parallel, the lecturer shed light on the intellectual and behavioral dimensions of extremism, pointing to the role played by Western powers in reshaping concepts to serve their interests and hegemony, while distorting the historical truths of the Islamic nation.
In a related context, the workshop discussed the extreme danger of this phenomenon, which threatens social peace and destroys economic foundations, considering terrorism the inevitable result of behavioral extremism fueled by ignorance, poverty, and attacks on sanctities.
The workshop concluded by establishing a roadmap for combating terrorism based on spreading awareness and improving living standards to direct energies toward productivity, while emphasizing that the values of justice and mercy are the foundation for restoring the nation’s leading role in reform.
It is noteworthy that the workshop saw significant attendance, led by the Dean of the College, with the participation of heads of scientific departments, faculty members, heads of administrative units, and a select group of staff and students.
