Department of Physics Holds a Scientific Seminar on Superconducting Materials

The Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar titled “Superconducting Materials and Their Applications”, presented by Dr. Abdullah Mahmoud Hussein.

During the seminar, the presenter reviewed the phenomenon of superconductivity, a physical state in which electrical resistance completely disappears when temperatures are reduced to critical levels. This allows electric current to pass without any energy loss, representing a revolution in the efficiency of electrical systems.

Dr. Hussein also focused on the physical properties of these materials and their relationship with magnetic fields, in addition to their use in modern applications such as advanced radar systems, high-speed magnetic levitation trains (Maglev), and particularly the giant magnets used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The lecturer further explained the strategic importance of these materials in the upcoming scientific and technological transformation, especially in ongoing attempts to develop materials that can operate at room temperature, which would open limitless future prospects in industry and energy.
