Department of Physics Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Radiation Risks and Prevention Methods

The Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar titled “Radiation Risks and Prevention Methods in Nuclear Laboratories,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Omar Farouk Fouad and Assistant Lecturer Nawfal Abdulrahman Hammoud.

The seminar aimed to introduce nuclear radiation and its types, explain its ability to penetrate living bodies, and clarify the health effects and damages that may result from exposure to different radiation doses.

The lecturers also reviewed the main procedures that should be followed inside nuclear laboratories and the surrounding areas to ensure the safety of workers, students, and people near these laboratories, in addition to explaining the preventive methods adopted to reduce the risks of radiation exposure.

Farouk also addressed the most important measures and procedures that should be taken immediately in the event of a radiation leak, which would help reduce potential damage and protect individuals and the environment.

For his part, Hammoud emphasized the importance of enhancing awareness of radiation risks inside nuclear laboratories and the necessity of adhering to radiation safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
