College of Engineering Organizes Awareness Campaign in Conjunction with National Tree Planting Day
The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized an awareness campaign under the slogan “And whoever saves one, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” This initiative coincided with National Tree Planting Day, observed on March 12, aiming to enhance environmental awareness through the distribution of instructional leaflets highlighting the importance of vegetation cover.
The campaign focused on the pivotal role of trees in climate regulation and air purification by absorbing carbon dioxide and generating oxygen. It also emphasized the spiritual and religious dimensions of this work, drawing from prophetic guidance that considers planting a form of ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) that benefits humans, animals, and nature alike.
On the economic and social levels, the event highlighted the material value of trees as sources of timber, medicine, and food. Additionally, it touched upon their profound psychological impact in promoting tranquility and physical comfort, according to modern psychological studies.
The campaign concluded by reviewing the aesthetic and architectural functions of afforestation in urban planning. Trees act as engineering elements that improve the general appearance and screen undesirable views, adding a civilized and sustainable environmental touch to urban facilities and roads.
