The Department of Geography Organizes a Scientific Seminar on the Relationship Between Climate and Agricultural Geography

The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Humanities – University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar titled: “The Relationship Between Climate and Agricultural Geography: Determinants, Impacts, and Future Challenges,” in conjunction with the celebration of World Water Day, observed annually on March 22. The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Najwa Abdul Ali Al-Taif and Assistant Lecturer Khalaf Fadel Ali.

Al-Taif explained that agricultural geography is a branch of human geography that focuses on studying the spatial distribution of agricultural activities and analyzing the factors influencing them.
She emphasized that climate and water resources are fundamental factors directly linked to agricultural production elements and food security.

Ali reviewed the concept of climate as the average state of weather elements over a long period, including temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and solar radiation. He clarified that water—whether from rainfall or irrigation—plays a decisive role in plant growth and crop maturation, noting that each crop has optimal thermal and water requirements to ensure productivity.

The seminar concluded with both lecturers stressing the importance of enhancing applied climate and water studies in the agricultural field, developing accurate databases on water resources to support decision-making, and expanding the use of modern technologies for climate and water forecasting.
These efforts contribute to formulating scientifically grounded and sustainable agricultural policies.
