Our Youth, the Pillar of Change: Engineering College Workshop Calls for Innovative Sustainable Energy Solutions

The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a workshop titled “Renewable Energy: Iraq’s Gateway to a Sustainable Future.” Presented by Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Aliwi, a faculty member in the Electromechanical Engineering Department, the session targeted second and fourth-year students. The event was attended by several faculty members and engineers from the Construction and Projects Department at the University Presidency.
The workshop organizers sought to highlight the role of renewable energy in achieving sustainable development in Iraq and to enhance scientific and environmental awareness among students. This initiative aimed to motivate them to innovate practical solutions that support the transition toward clean energy and a sustainable future.
The content of the workshop included sustainability concepts and the distinction between renewable and non-renewable energy, with a specific focus on the strategy for transitioning toward clean energy within Iraq.
During the session, the lecturer reviewed a map of promising regions and existing projects, highlighting the economic and environmental returns of this trend. These benefits range from enhancing energy security and job creation to transforming universities into hubs for innovation.
Furthermore, the workshop concluded that the abundance of natural resources combined with the leading role of youth constitutes the fundamental pillar for Iraq’s success in diversifying its energy sources.
The event wrapped up by emphasizing the university student’s role in rationalizing energy consumption, participating in seminars and research, and supporting graduation projects and student initiatives that serve the goals of sustainability and clean energy.
