Human Rights Unit Organizes a Workshop on Scientific Research and Sustainable Development

The Human Rights Unit, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Division at the College of the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Samarra organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Scientific Research and Sustainable Development,” presented by Dr. Barda Anwar Jassim and Mr. Abdul Salam Muhannad Mahmoud.

Dr. Jassim highlighted the importance of scientific research in advancing human knowledge and its role in addressing the challenges faced by societies through the application of scientific research methods and fundamental steps. She also emphasized its contribution to scientific and technological progress, as well as its support for evidence-based decision-making.

In the same context, the lecturer explained the concept of sustainable development, which aims to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This is achieved by balancing economic, social, and environmental aspects, in addition to emphasizing the importance of conserving natural resources and rationalizing their use.

For his part, Mr. Mahmoud stressed the close relationship between scientific research and sustainable development, noting that research is a key tool for achieving development by providing innovative solutions to environmental, economic, and social problems. It also contributes to advancing education, health, and technology sectors, improving quality of life, and supporting sustainability through the scientific and well-planned investment of resources.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably the need to support scientific research by educational and governmental institutions, promote a culture of research and innovation, and encourage researchers to adhere to scientific standards. It also emphasized the importance of utilizing research outcomes to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development that contributes to building a developed society capable of facing future challenges.
