A New Scientific Achievement: Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alaiwi Publishes Renewable Energy Research in Scopus-Indexed Journals

Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alaiwi, a faculty member in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Samarra, has published a scientific research paper in the International Journal of Heat and Technology, which is indexed within Scopus (Q3) databases. This achievement was accomplished in collaboration with a research team from Mustansiriyah University, the University of Technology, Al-Iraqia University, and Al-Mustaqbal University College.
The research, titled “Numerical Analysis and Performance Evaluation of a Hybrid Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (Savonius-Darrieus) with Airfoil-Shaped Blades,” included an advanced study aimed at improving wind energy conversion efficiency in urban environments. This was achieved by integrating Savonius and Darrieus technologies through mechanical modeling and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations that mimic the atmospheric conditions of Baghdad.
The results demonstrated the superiority of the three-stage, three-blade hybrid model, recording a production capacity of 416 Watts and an electrical efficiency of 78.2%. These findings enhance the potential for its investment in sustainable energy harvesting within cities.
In this regard, the Deanship of the College of Engineering—represented by the Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Amjed Saleh Mahmood —congratulates the faculty member on his scientific output, wishing him continued success and prosperity in his research career.
