Department of Creed Discusses a Master’s Thesis by Student Abdulkarim Majeed Mutab
The Department of Creed and Islamic Thought at the College of Islamic Sciences discussed the Master’s thesis submitted by the student Abdulkarim Majeed Mutab, titled: “The Marginal Commentary of Muhammad bin Mustafa Al-Mudrani on Nuzhat Al-Nazar by Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (d. 852 AH), from the statement: (He may be a narrator of few reports and still unknown) to the statement: (Al-Daraqutni said: abandoned) – A Study and Critical Edition,” held in the college hall with the of a number of faculty members and researchers.
This thesis is considered a specialized academic study in Hadith sciences, as it examined and verified an important part of the marginal commentary by Imam Muhammad bin Mustafa Al-Mudrani on the book Nuzhat Al-Nazar by Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani, which is one of the most prominent works in Hadith terminology. The researcher aimed to highlight the scholarly value of this commentary by accurately editing the text, documenting its sources, and clarifying the author’s methodology in presenting Hadith-related issues.
The thesis consisted of two main sections: a theoretical section introducing the author, the original text, and the significance and scholarly status of the book, along with an explanation of the research methodology; and a critical section focused on producing a verified edition of the manuscript from its original sources, with annotations, explanations of difficult terms, and referencing supporting evidence.
The examination committee noted that the thesis represents a valuable scholarly contribution to the field of Islamic heritage verification, particularly in Hadith sciences, due to the evident effort in serving Hadith texts and clarifying their meanings. The committee praised the student’s dedication and perseverance in completing this work.
At the conclusion of the defense, the student was awarded a Master’s degree after incorporating the required academic revisions, with wishes for continued success in his academic career.
