The Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education Discusses a Master’s Thesis in Comparative Jurisprudence
The Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Samarra, discussed a master’s thesis entitled:
“The Narrations of Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Razi (d. 230 AH) in Sunan Abi Dawud – A Comparative Jurisprudential Study,” submitted by the student Ismail Khalil Jameel.
The study aimed to demonstrate the role of Islamic jurisprudence in organizing the affairs of a Muslim’s life in accordance with Islamic law (Sharia), through examining, analyzing, and comparing juristic narrations, with a particular focus on the narrations of Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Razi in the book Sunan Abi Dawud.
The thesis consisted of four chapters. The first chapter presented a biography of Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Razi, including his upbringing, scholarly life, teachers, and students. The second chapter was devoted to introducing Imam Abu Dawud and his book Al-Sunan, discussing its methodology, significance, and major commentaries. The third chapter examined the scholarly aspects related to the book, while the fourth chapter focused on deriving juristic rulings from the narrations, distributed across areas such as acts of worship, transactions, personal status law, prescribed punishments, criminal law, the judiciary, and ethics.
In conclusion, the thesis arrived at several scholarly findings that contribute to deepening comparative juristic understanding and enhancing the application of hadith narrations in deriving Islamic legal rulings.
