The Department of Geography is organizing a scientific course on media mobilization in the era of the Crusades

The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Samarra, organized a scientific course entitled “Media Mobilization in the Era of the Crusades.” The course was delivered by Dr. Thaer Hassan Abdullah, Dr. Nadia Ahmed Jassim, and Assistant Lecturer Shaiban Dhiab Ali.

The lecturers began the course by defining the nature of the media discourse that accompanied the Crusades, describing it as an influential tool in shaping public opinion and stirring religious enthusiasm.

They reviewed the most prominent propaganda methods adopted by the Church and popular movements at the time, along with the use of religious slogans and symbols, as well as the spread of rumors and visions that contributed to mobilizing the masses.

They then explained the contemporary dimensions of media and its dangers in shaping collective awareness, emphasizing the importance of studying historical experiences to draw lessons and insights that help enhance media awareness and address current challenges.

The course concluded with the lecturers stressing that understanding the mechanisms of propaganda throughout history represents an important approach to analyzing contemporary media discourse and dealing with it consciously and responsibly.
