Two Faculty Members from the College of Applied Sciences Publish a Scientific Paper Indexed in Scopus
Dr. Haneen Khaled Naji and Assistant Lecturer Amina Salman Ali, faculty members in the Department of Pathological Analyses at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, have published a scientific research paper indexed in Scopus. The paper is titled:
“Virulence Factors and Antibiotic Susceptibility Patterns of Proteus mirabilis Isolates from Patients with Urinary Tract Infections”
and was published in the Al-Isra University Journal of Applied Sciences, which is classified within the fourth quartile (Q4) in Scopus.
The study aimed to investigate the virulence factors of Proteus mirabilis, as well as to determine its patterns of susceptibility and resistance to commonly used antibiotics. This is of significant importance for improving treatment options and reducing complications in patients.
The study concluded that the bacterium exhibits high resistance to several antibiotics, while showing good susceptibility to others. These findings highlight the importance of conducting antibiotic susceptibility testing prior to prescribing treatment. Additionally, the results demonstrated that the bacterium possesses strong virulence factors, including urease production, high adhesion ability, and bacteriocin production—factors that contribute to increased severity and persistence of infection.
