Dean of the College of Engineering Attends a Scientific Seminar on Renewable Energy Prospects and Sustainability
The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Samarra, Assistant Professor Dr. Amjed Saleh Mahmood, attended a specialized scientific seminar held at Al-Mu’tasim Hall .As part of the Sustainability Week activities .
The seminar addressed ways to consolidate environmental culture and plans to preserve natural resources, while highlighting the leading role of universities in spearheading initiatives that serve sustainable development in the country.
On the other hand, Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alaiwi, a faculty member in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, enriched the session by presenting a vital theme titled “Renewable Energy: Iraq’s Launching Point Toward a Sustainable Environment.” In his presentation, he outlined a strategy for Iraq’s transition toward a sustainable environment, highlighting the differences between conventional and renewable energy. He emphasized that the country possesses the necessary elements for success, including suitable land areas, an investment-friendly climate, and national expertise.
The seminar concluded that expanding these projects ensures energy security, creates job opportunities, and reduces emissions. It also stressed the importance of cooperation between academic and governmental bodies to support existing and future projects across various governorates to achieve sustainability for future generations.
In turn, the Dean emphasized the fundamental role of scientific seminars in enhancing community awareness and deepening environmental responsibility among students. He praised the efforts made in organizing “Sustainability Week” and the qualitative programs it offers, which reflect the College of Engineering’s commitment to scientific and cultural engagement. This aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aimed at establishing the pillars of a sustainable university environment.
