The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences is organizing a scientific course on environmental sustainability and digital transformation
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities, Samarra University, organized a scientific course entitled:
“Environmental Sustainability through Digital Transformation and Resource Reduction.”
Assistant Lecturer Laith Attallah Ali presented a session on the concept of sustainable development, explaining its evolution from a framework focused on environmental protection to an integrated system aimed at improving the quality of life for current and future generations. He emphasized the role of digital transformation in supporting sustainability by enhancing the efficiency of natural resource management and reducing waste, while also highlighting the importance of education and scientific research in establishing the concepts of environmental sustainability.
Dr. Iman Abdul-Jabbar Ahmed presented a session focusing on the dimensions of sustainable development, analyzing the “golden triangle” of sustainability (economic, social, and environmental). She clarified the challenges hindering the application of these dimensions in the contemporary world and explored ways to achieve a balance between the requirements of economic growth and the preservation of natural resources. The session also addressed the strategic importance of sustainability in achieving financial stability, promoting social justice, and protecting ecosystems.
In conclusion, the speakers recommended the adoption of clear national strategies to achieve environmental sustainability, enhance integration between academic institutions and government agencies, support innovation and scientific research, and intensify awareness programs to promote a culture of sustainability within society.
They then emphasized the importance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and Goal 13 (Climate Action), as fundamental pillars for building a balanced future that combines development with environmental protection.
