Workshop at the College of Education Discusses the Necessity of Teaching Scientific Subjects in English

The College of Education at the University of Samarra organized a workshop on “Teaching Scientific Subjects in English,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Thaer Jawad and Assistant Lecturer Harith Sameer Dawood, both faculty members in the Department of Life Sciences.
The speakers aimed to highlight the rapid changes in the global education environment and the need to adopt English for teaching scientific subjects.
Thaer explained that the necessity of relying on English in scientific lessons lies in its status as the universal language of scientific research, especially regarding specialized scientific sources and reputable academic journals.
Meanwhile, Sameer added that introducing English into the teaching of subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and life sciences, and adopting scientific terminology in these fields, would contribute to raising students’ scientific and linguistic proficiency, preparing them for advanced university studies, and facilitating their integration into the global job market.
In the same context, the speakers recommended showcasing successful local and international experiences in English language education, encouraging the adoption of modern strategies capable of integrating diverse content in English, improving the proficiency of faculty members, and enhancing students’ knowledge of other languages.
