Awareness Seminar on Autism Spectrum Organized by the College of Applied Sciences

The College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra held a seminar titled “Autism in Our Society: Understanding, Acceptance, and Support,” presented by Mr. Abdulquddus Rashid Abdulhamid, Ms. Ameerah Ali Lateef, and Ms. Samarah Omar Abdulkarim.

The seminar aimed to explain the main causes of autism, educate on methods for dealing with individuals affected by it, and clarify its signs and treatment options.

Mr. Rashid described autism as a neurological disorder that affects a child during early developmental stages, usually appearing within the first two years of life. It is characterized by a range of impacts on social, communicative, and behavioral abilities and is classified among spectrum disorders.

Ms. Ali highlighted the role of families and communities in supporting individuals with autism. She stressed the importance of spreading societal awareness, reducing stigma, and emphasized the need to organize workshops and specialized seminars to raise awareness about the condition and educate people on how to interact with those affected.

Ms. Omar recommended the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for children with autism and supporting their families by providing guidance on managing the condition. She also called for specialized training programs for individuals on the autism spectrum.

The seminar was organized by the Media and Government Communication Division of the college, following directives from the Department of Media and Government Communication at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in line with the recommendations of the university presidency.
